Biography

My name is Philemon Kasaro from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. I live at Dzaleka Refugee Camp. In 2018, my brother opened the first photo studio at Dzaleka named Kasa Pro, and as of now, I own it because he was resettled to the USA. My brother taught me photography, and since he left, I have improved my work and at last I can take a good shot and satisfy my customer’s desire. When I reached Malawi, I was jobless and my life was very difficult. Since becoming a photographer, I have seen changes in my life, and this work has connected and familiarized me with a lot of people in the camp. I have faced so many challenges. One day one of my employees lost wedding pictures, so it was a big challenge. But since then, I work extra carefully and I’ve never repeated the same mistake. These days, I’m learning film-making and video editing software. I earn 300,000 Malawi Kwacha per month by myself. I pay rent, and pay my employees. My vision is to become one of the best photographers in the camp, in Malawi, and in the world. I advise youths to learn different skills in order to improve their well being.
